Geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering education during the pandemic

This paper reports the impact of coronavirus disease 2019 on practice and delivery geotechnical geoenvironmental engineering (GGE) education modules, including lectures, lab sessions, student assessments research activities, based feedback from faculty members in 14 countries/regions around world. Faculty have since adopted a series contingent measures to enhance teaching learning experience during pandemic, which includes facilitating active learning, exploring new content related public health, expanding e-learning resources, implementing more engaged student-centred assessment delivering high-impact integrated research. The key challenges that are facing appear be how maximise flexibility meet physical distancing requirements without compromising outcomes, equity interpersonal interactions traditional face-to-face teaching. Despite imposed by this could also good opportunity for obliged lecture, rethink revise existing contents approaches professing GGE education. Three future opportunities namely, smart flipped interdisciplinary education, identified. changes potentially provide students with resilient, engaged, interactive technology-based environment.
